We are a team of passion-driven professionals, trained in designing with eco-friendly materials, especially with Bamboo as our choice of material. We provide innovative design solutions to achieve disaster-resistant, elegant, sustainable, and engineered Bamboo houses.

Different designs explored of a disaster-resilient bamboo house in semi-urban & rural areas:

BAMBOO AS THE MATERIAL OF CHOICE IN RURAL ECO-SYSTEM:

      Fast-growing, versatile, and highly renewable

Optimum mechanical properties, tailor-made for use as a building material: straight, smooth, round, and strong.

Pragmatic solution to the replacement of wood which is no longer a sustainable and viable vernacular material due to vast deforestation.

It has a high degree of carbon sequestration that offers a solution to global climate change.

Improves the water retention capability of soil where it is cultivated and stops soil erosion.

Use as construction material continued since long in earth-quake prone regions like Columbia, Ecuador, and Peru in Southern America, even in difficult terrains like steep slopes of hills and swampy coastal areas, primarily for the structural advantage of the light weight and resilient raw material.

Easy adaptability as it is part of the local and rural knowledge system.

ISSUES ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THROUGH THE SOLUTION:

Easy replicable designs for fast training and spreading.

Proper preservation and treatment of bamboo to ensure durability.

In-situ application process to ensure sustainability

Engineered design with proper mathematical approach by considering mechanical properties to ensure optimum usage of raw materials and best performance during disasters.

SOURCE OF DATA REGARDING BAMBOO:

Science & Technology (S&T) intervention at Birati Building Centre (BBC) in N 24 Parganas, West Bengal around bamboo since last decade, under the umbrella of FOSET (Forum of Scientists, engineers, and technologists).

Experience is mainly with Bambusa balcooa, the species largely available around south Bengal.
